My Bucket List...OF FOOD
If you're new around here, you know that I think Bucket Lists are silly, and instead, I've made a very special F*ck It List of things I don't care to do before I die.
But then it hit me...there are lots of foods I want to try, just once (because who really wants to make a habit of eating fried Twinkies? And we all know that the Double Down is super gross in theory, but oooo, it looks delicious). Oh man...can you imagine? Actually trying Balut in the Phillipines? Tipping back a bottle of the real deal Dom Perignon? Eating that super stinky spiky fruit in a market in Phuket?
So I am making a Bucket List of Food. Some of the foods are really gross in a super good way, and some foods are things I've seen here and there and thought to myself, "Oh yeah, I know that's in a remote corner of Djibouti, but I must taste it."
Here are a few of the particulars:
-I eat mostly vegetarian, but meat is acceptable for the Bucket List of Food. (Again, this is stuff I will only eat ONCE in my life, so I think not eating meat all the other times in life is a fair trade-off.)
-I am allowed to intermix super gross (but delicious!) stuff freely with delicacies.
-When possible, I would like to eat these foods on my list for free. Because things taste better when they're free.
-If the food on my list originates in another country, I'd like to eat that food in that country. No imports allowed.
-I'll document my eats with camera and written or video-d review.
Here are a few I've added to the list already:
1. The KFC Double Down (because it's funny and somewhat controversial).
3. Fried Shrimp Heads at Joss Sushi
4. The Angry Mussells at JCT Kitchen and Bar
5. Fish Tacos in Hawaii (or any seafood in Hawaii. OK, I just want to go to Hawaii)
7. Famous Garlic Noodles at Crustacean
8. Sea Urchin
9. Guacamole at Lopez on Lee (and hey, it's in Ohio!)
10. A Fried Twinkie (Yes, I've never had one, and no, I'll never have another after this one)
11. A Krispy Kreme Bacon Cheeseburger (I know, so gross, right? But SO intriguing, nonetheless...um, and after viewing that link, I think I'll just make it a bite, and not the whole burger)
12. Barbeque at the Salt Lick (the one in Driftwood)
13. More to come!
I have a list of international foods brewing already, but I'd like to ask you...what's a "must try" food from your hometown or region? And give me details on WHY I should add it to my bucket list of food (besides the fact that we could have dinner together when I visit :))!

Taylor ham, egg & cheese (salt-pepper-ketchup) on an everything bagel. That's NJ.
Caveat: if you get "pork roll" or get it on a roll, that's NOT NJ. It's taylor ham and it comes on a bagel.
Hmmm...I'm not sure if NJ will make it on my Bucket List of Food. I mean, that sounds delicious and all.. :)
Next time you're in Texas, we'll knock the Salt Lick and fried twinkie off your list.
Also, I have 4 words for you: Bacon. Infused. Maker's Mark.
I think I've heard of that! Don't they serve it with some crazy good bacon sandwich or something? I think I saw it on the Food Network.
And fo' sho' I'm making another trip down to Austin at some point. Hmmm...maybe SXSW next year? :)
Here is a great place to create, manage and share your bucket list. You can also get some interesting ideas to put on your bucket list from others.
